Some of our Open Day attendees were surprised to learn Indigo therapists offer pressure mapping services, using specific equipment and software to identify optimal positioning for clients with a risk or history of pressure injuries, with the resulting reports commonly used for risk management plans and equipment funding submissions.
Pressure mapping technology uses sensor pads and computer software to measure and report upon levels of pressure across a client’s individual position, providing real time results on areas of highest risk and the impact of positioning adjustments.
Pressure mapping assessments can be useful for clients with restricted mobility, sensory loss, prolonged sitting and people with a history of skin issues. It can be performed on wheelchairs, lounges, chairs, mattresses - pretty much anywhere you can put your body!
Occupational therapists often use these tools to inform decision making to preserve skin integrity and provide support in decision making or education for clients on best approaches for posture and safety.
It can be used to support evidence-based assisted technology prescription and often contributes to documentation used when applying for complex AT funding across both aged care and disability sectors.
