Icograda. Leading Creatively
Icograda (the International Council of Graphic Design Associations) is the world body for professional communication design. Founded in 1963, it is a voluntary assembly of associations concerned with graphic design, visual communication, design management, promotion, education, research and journalism. Icograda promotes communication designers' vital role in society and commerce and unifies the voices of graphic designers and visual communicators worldwide. Icograda holds consultative status with UNESCO, UNIDO, ISO, IFFRO and WIPO. Today, Icograda has more than 200 Members and numerous Friends in 67 countries and regions worldwide.
The vision, mission and core values of Icograda are embodied in the statement ‘leading creatively’ and manifested through our members’ diverse activities to use design as a medium for progressive change.
The IDA
The International Design Alliance (IDA) is a strategic venture between the international organisations representing design. The alliance was created by founding partners Icsid and Icograda and ratified by their respective General Assemblies in September 2003. Following the General Assemblies in 2007, the IDA is currently working with the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) to join the alliance as the third partner.
The alliance is based on the desire of its partners to "do together what they cannot do alone," concentrating on opportunities arising from multidisciplinary collaboration.
ICSID
The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) is an international non-governmental organisation for professional industrial design. Founded in 1957, Icsid currently counts over 150 members in more than 50 countries, representing an estimated 150,000 designers worldwide. Icsid members are professional associations, promotional societies, educational institutions, government bodies, corporations and institutions — all of which contribute to the development of the profession of industrial design. Icsid facilitates co-operation and interaction among these societies and supports a global network through which design institutions worldwide can collaborate. Through shared interests, experiences, and resources, Icsid provides an international platform for its members to be heard as a powerful voice. Icsid also holds consultative status with UNESCO, UNIDO, ISO and WIPO to support and highlight design in international forums.
